Health benefits of LED Lights

With the current interest trends in health and wellness, it is surprising that LED lights have not made a bigger splash in the health media.

Compact fluoro lights which have been promoted as the clever new energy saving lights have some serious drawbacks that have been kept very quiet from the public. Compact fluoros are difficult to read with, the light is poor quality and they contain mercury. There are two major problems with mercury being involved. Firstly, as they bulbs age, they become fragile and often, when you try to change the bulb, it disintegrates, exposing you to mercury vapour and mercury on the skin. Secondly, mercury should not be put into the environment via rubbish tips. In the future it is likely that these bulbs will need to be disposed of by special methods to prevent mercury release into the environment.

With LEDs there are no harmful health side effects. Light emitting diodes produce a clear light and even after some time, if a couple of diodes fail, the overall light output is barely affected. LEDs in the 5000-6000 colour range are fantastic for reading or working under. The softer colours such as warm white in the 3000 colour range produce a more yellow light that is more suited to ambient lighting for lounge and dining areas.

Unlike fluorescent tubes, LED tubes produce no flicker which can be harmful for epileptics and can produce headaches and vision issues in others. Sitting under a full spectrum white LED light for a short time each day can provide the necessary stimulation for the skin to produce vitamin D that would normally be done by exposure to the sun. This is a solution used by thousands in Scandinavian countries, to maintain healthy immune systems during the long dark months each winter.

When LEDs eventually wear out after around 80,000 hours they can be fully recycled. LEDs are the new wonder product and will undoubtedly gain popularity in the coming years.

LED Lights For Shops

LED Lights for Shops Reduce Power Costs for Retailers

With retailers struggling with high wage costs and low sales in a currently difficult retail environment, an easy to save on overheads is to replace incandescent bulbs, halogens, fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent bulbs with LED lights.
LED lights for shops are available in a comprehensive range of down lights, candles, regular bulbs and tubes to fit most retail or domestic requirements.
Discount LED lights are available from P.O.S.M. (Point of Sale Material) Pty. Ltd. who import direct from China. With no agents or other middle men, they are able to provide discount LED lights direct to the end user.   For further information, visit their webshop at www.posm.com.au
A no obligation cost analysis calculator is available to show retailers the savings they can achieve by switching to LED lights throughout their stores.  LED lights save power costs in retail fridges as LED lighting produces negligible heat. With LEDs, fridges do not have to work so hard to negate the heat output generated by non LED refrigerator lighting.

The Retail Innovation & Evolution of Scanstrip
Scanstrip for displaying prices in the retail environment is now the accepted norm, yet 25 years ago, Scanstrip did not exist in the Australian market.  Scanstrip is no longer the new kid on the block, and has grown and evolved into a comprehensive range of profiles to suit any retail situation. Originally called, “Datastrip”, in Europe, with the advent of ticket scanning technology, Scanstrip had to be improved to a higher clarity, readable by hand held barcode scanners.  Australia was a leader in some of this innovation. With this in mind, the name Scanstrip seemed more appropriate and has remained.

Innovation came to Scanstrip in many ways. No longer was a simple piece of extruded plastic sufficient for all the jobs the retail market could come up with.

As retail shelving became metric, standard retail shelves went from the old size of 3 foot, (914mm) to 1200mm (4ft). Scanstrip naturally followed suit and is still available in both sizes. Refrigerated shelving required a Hanging Scanstrip as the cold and dampness rendered some of the adhesives on standard profiles ineffective.  Basket Scantrip was created.

Liquor chains decided that displaying larger shelf tickets with suggested food to match wines, was a clever marketing idea, so Wide Scanstrip was born. As the wine bottles were taken from the shelves, the lower edges of the Scanstrip on the above shelf, were being hit and damaged.  Hinged Scanstrip was developed as a solution.

Clever marketing people realised that coloured Scanstrip would provide a streamlined effect for retail branding and merchandising, so the regular clear Scanstrip, though still the most popular, made way for a rainbow of coloured Scanstrip options.

With the invention of computers, printers and the ability to print in house shelf tickets, Scanstrip saw another upsurge in usage, as the printed shelf tickets needed to be displayed.
There is no doubt that Scanstrip will continue to develop and evolve as part of the modern retail environment.
